Prepping and Processing

So Vicki and I are doing our final prep for our upcoming Camino trip. I am finding out that this is as much about processing our emotions as it is about physically preparing, maybe even more about the emotions.  Specifically today we were talking about sleeping together.  You see we just haven't gotten to the ...

The Moments I Want to See

The subtle gesture, the head nod, the quick intense glance, the oddly timed laugh.  These are all things we notice daily, or do we?  When I try to remember back as to what some of the gestures my Mom made growing up, the only one I remember besides her smiling was pursed lips.  She never ...

Reflections

Have you ever looked so deep into a reflection that it turns three dimensional?   You can actually see the full world in it and it takes on a depth and fullness that is not only real, but is surreal. That is what happened when I looked deeply into the reflection in this pristine lake ...

The Camino Begins Again

There is an expression that I learned on my last walk and it is that the Camino begins the day you return from your trip.  Walking the Camino is the way to begin again in life.  I love the metaphor of the journey and the depth that it can take.  So in essence I have come full circle.  I am preparing for another walk, I am beginning the Camino again.

How to Spiritually Prepare for The Camino

For many, the Camino is an opportunity to connect with their spiritual side.  Let's face it, the walk is long, sometimes monotonous, physically strenuous, and will test your spirit to its core.  The journey will give you ample time to connect with the deepest meaning of the word spirituality.  Spirituality is such an important topic. ...

My amazing wife found this opportunity through a site called TrustedHouseSitters.com that pairs up travelers with people needing their house sat. Usually the people wanting ...

Yoho Ho-Ho-Ho

This year is the 150th anniversary of the Canadian National Parks.  So as a give to all, Canada has opened up access to all their parks for free.  Yes, so no park fees!  We are fortunate to have six in our area and we have been in five thus far.  Here is some of the ...

Banff And Beyond

We arrived in Calgary a few days back and are here to explore the Canadian Rockies and it looks like I have been fooling myself all these years.  I was under the impression that Rockies are Rockies and why go all the way to Canada  when I can see them in Colorado.  WRONGOO!!  I have ...

On Writing Essays

When I was in grade school I was absolutely and thoroughly terrified of writing essays.  English in general was such a foreign concept to me.  English teachers seemed like they were hard to please.  The thing that got to me was that, unlike math, there was no right answer! English teachers seemed to me to ...

How to Physically Prepare for the Camino

There are so many ways to prepare for the Camino. I will just start out by saying there is no ‘right’ way.  Some people prepare months in advance, and some don’t prepare at all.  In the end, most of them make it.  I believe that the two most important things to keep in mind when ...
